LOCAL DEM LEADERSHIP EXPANDS
Recently elected to the position of Maine State Democratic Party Chair, Hancock County's John Knutson has announced his resignation as Chair of the county committee in order to devote his full energies to the state party. "This is a tremendously important time for Democrats in Maine," said Knutson. "We have many exciting races ahead of us, including a critical US Senate race, and I'm honored to be working with so many talented and dedicated individuals."
In accepting Knutson's resignation on behalf of the HCDC membership, Bellows thanked Knutson for his leadership. "John has directed the growth of a County organization that is respected around the state. His initiative and tireless efforts have helped us achieve significant goals. The MDP will benefit from John Knutson's keen focus and wise administration. We will miss John's leadership in our County efforts, but we're confidant that we can build on the strong foundations we've established during his tenure."
Knutson was elected Chair of the Hancock County Democratic Committee in 2004. In accordance with committee by-laws, Dexter Bellows, current Vice Chair, will assume the Chair. HCDC members will vote at their November 15 meeting to fill the Vice Chair position, as well as an opening for delegate to the State Committee.
