| Strong KidsStrong FamiliesStrong Communities | Rob and his wife Candy were recently honored with The Hancock County Children’s Council's 2006 Nancy Gentile Humanitarian Award.
My core values are Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. As your State Representative, you can expect me to embrace the same core values I encourage kids to live by. These values will always guide my decision-making process. Your concerns and ideas will always matter to me. I will respect your views and appreciate your input. I will never abdicate my responsibility to you. I will maintain an outstanding attendance record and I will be a pro-active Representative.
Our future is promising. We live in one of the most beautiful places on earth and it is important that we guide our growth in a positive direction. • Common sense Protection of the Environment and resources that provide a living for so many residents of Downeast Maine. • Secure Access to our Waterfront for the protection of our traditional jobs. • Provide a Safety Net for our senior citizens, our families and our children. • Property Tax Relief remains a critical issue for citizens on fixed incomes and year-round coastal residents. • Affordable Health Care is a necessity. Families must have access to preventative care. The results of not having that access are more chronic disease, more acute care, and increased costs to us all. • Improve Opportunities for Education in our traditional and non-traditional jobs. Maine is recognized as possibly the finest boat-building state in the world, yet there is little opportunity for exposure to this trade during the high school years. A stronger cooperative effort between our schools and our employers could lead to apprenticeship or other similar opportunities. • Use our Small Schools to our greatest community advantage. • Small Business is the lifeblood of our communities. I have been a small business owner and I will strive to create the best possible environment for the growth and stability of these businesses. Some challenges facing us are the ever-rising costs of health care, workers comp, liability insurance and state regulations.
My Background: • Born January 4, 1955 • U.S. Maine Corps 1974-1977, discharged with honors • Moved to Hancock with wife Candy in October 1978 • Resident & Homeowner in Sullivan since 1980 • Employed by the Down East Family YMCA since 1990. As the YMCA Youth Services Director, I assist and mentor teenagers with life decisions, volunteerism, education, and employment opportunities. I also teach sportsmanship, basic life and sport skills to youngsters participating in YMCA Youth Sports. • My concern for Senior Citizens with health issues led to the creation of the YMCA Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III program. I directed this program through its early years (1991-1993). • I love kids and sports! I have been the radio play-by-play “Voice of the Ellsworth Eagles” since 2001. • Additional Community Service: Ellsworth Area Communities for Children & Youth (2001-date); Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Maine founding member (1997-2000); Hancock County Children’s Council member (1987-1992); Washington Hancock Community Agency Board of Directors (1988-1990); Sullivan Comprehensive Planning Co-Chair (1990/91)
