ABOUT HCDCAs our county's official arm of the Maine Democratic Party, we work to recruit and elect candidates for state office and to pursue a Democratic vision for Maine. For the PeopleWe believe in the power of government to do for all what individuals cannot do for themselves. From potholes to education to bridges to public health,Maine government is Maine acting in community.
By the PeopleWe are everyday folks who have decided to get involved, and we welcome new friends. The world is run by those who show up.
Honor the ConstitutionWe revere the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights and cherish our freedoms of expression and assembly. We are alarmed by the Bush Administration's infringements on our rights.
Ike was RightPresident Eisenhower warned about the military/industrial complex and we fear his concern is being realized. Sweetheart deals, war profiteering,CEO malfeasance, and undue corporate influence on government are corrupting our politics and poisoning our society.
Preserve the EnvironmentAs sportsmen, workers in natural resource industries,or hikers and bikers,Mainers have a special love for the beauty of the land and waters. We oppose relaxing the Clean Air and Water Acts, drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and other proposals that use profit as the only measure of value.
Fair Trade, not Free TradeThousands of Maine jobs have disappeared under the North American Free Trade Agreement, and NAFTA and the World Trade Organization are exercising powers that nullify laws of US states and municipalities. In this state of small business and hard work,we are proud to support workers and their unions.Economic globalization must benefit people, not damage them.
And Justice for AllWe believe passionately in the inherent dignity and worth of every individual. The Democratic Party is responsible for enlarging the electorate through the Voting Rights Act and is committed to equal justice and opportunity for all. |
